The Europe Business Assembly, Oxford – or EBA, hold events (bi-annually it seems) where it hands out prestigious-looking and sounding awards to people. The thing is, the people have to PAY to be ‘accredited’, and one must be accredited to receive an award. Awards include:
- Socrates Award
The model relies on supply and demand. The EBA Awards folks will email or write to minor political figures and business people in developing countries and inform them they have been nominated for a Socrates Award from the EBA, Oxford (which looks credible by trying to relate itself to the University – and having it’s own emblem). If you’re nominated and would like an award you should pay for the ‘promotion’ and ‘accreditation’.
Much more in-depth research into the awards can be found on a couple of pages:

So – why does this website exist? Purely for awareness purposes.
What the EBA Awards do isn’t illegal. It’s questionable, but not illegal. Additionally, one can assume that a lot, if not all, of the recipients get into it knowing what’s going on. It’s a prestigious sounding award, at a relatively swanky location and it comes at a cost.
If you want recognition for yourself or your organisation from a fancy-sounding body but would rather pay for it than the usual means – this is the product!
We would like people who are contacted by the organisation to know what this is – and people who see the award to not get tricked into believing it’s an honest award. Simple.
